Visiting Egypt

Egypt is one of the greatest destinations in the Middle East. This ancient region is home to the popular pyramids Giza Necropolis, Khan el-Khalili, and Karnak.  Aside from the pyramids, Egypt is home to souks, ancient temples, and other historical sites that will have you falling in love over and over. So if you are planning a trip to Egypt here are some things you need to remember.

Read before going to Egypt

The only way to appreciate the ancient sites in Egypt is when you majored in ancient history.  So make time to research online about the pyramids in Egypt. Look through magazines and learn about what you need to expect when you get to the place. Having the knowledge of the iconic spots on Egypt will truly enhance your visit.

Don’t Panic

The pyramids of Egypt would look really casual yet stunning in the picture. But wait until you get inside for real.  The pyramids have confined space and lack of air. Although you will be with a lot of tourists, sometimes you feel like the rocks will go crumbling down on you. But don’t panic. All of the ancient sites in Egypt are safe; otherwise the government would not have opened it for public viewing. Just make sure you have enough water to hydrate yourself while you are inside.

Don’t just take pictures

If you are here only to take pictures then you are wasting your time. A real Egyptian tour requires making a pause and spending extra 30 minutes to visit Khufu’s ship in the small Khufu Boat Museum, which is located near the Great Pyramid of Giza. Additional entrance fee is required but this will give you the chance to go back as far back in time as 1954.  The full vessel has been around since 2500BC. Nothing beats the feeling of having goosebumps or seeing remnants of a rich past.

Be prepared to brave the sun

Most of the ancient sites in Egypt are packed with people. So if you are the kind of person who doesn’t enjoy the crowds, you can skip visiting the pyramids and go to some other sites with less people. The pyramids become empty around 11am and you can come back around this time.  Take note however that the sun is at full show around these times making the whole place really hot. The temperature inside the pyramid also rises which means you need to prepare yourself.
