Egg, Zilla's sophomore studio work, is in no way like any typical studio album that a band took half a year to write, record, and process. It is every bit as live and unrehearsed as the Zilla experience.
As Zilla morphed into a trio earlier this year, the band felt it needed a better representation of the new sound that was acquired in the change & the result is nothing less than spellbinding. From the first note Egg progresses in a spine-tingling fashion, each song traveling along the mesmerizing path that a live Zilla experience takes you on. Each member of the band is equally impressive and noteworthy, however, it is the whole sound that is truly impressive on the album.
Each note hits deep within your body and gives you those good kinds of shivers. It appears that every note on the album is organic and sounds as though it was carefully planned and conceived.
“Only when the listener considers the fact that this is all off the top of the head, played in front of a live audience with no premonition of what was going to happen, does this album achieve its full purpose. Zilla is a live band, and its albums should reflect the experience one has at its shows. Egg does just that.”
